You could be forgiven for thinking that Natasha Hemmings is simply a pretty face. With the title of Miss Cheshire and Miss England under her belt, the pageant superstar turned her attention to the talent she showcased in the talent rounds of the competition, namely - classical singing.
In advance of her widely anticipated debut album, Whispers, Hemmings has embarked on a nationwide tour with classical music royalty Aled Jones and Russel Watson. She has wowed audiences every night with her angelic vocals and unique reworkings of well-known classical pieces, which illustrate not only her talent as a singer but also a lyricist.
The album has been described by Hemmings as “like mindfulness”, with a clear message to slow down and take stock of the world around you and live in appreciation of the moment, all set to the sound of well-known classical pieces. Whispers also sees her collaborate with singer of Irish band, Clannad, and Enya's sister, Moya Brennan. As if this wasn’t enough, Grammy award winner Jose Feliciano has also lent his classical know-how to the album, providing a beautifully serene guitar accompaniment to Hemmings’ ethereal and tranquil vocal line.
Leading single, ‘Summer Shores’ is the perfect example of this melding of talents. Natasha’s voice is the front and centre of this beautifully mixed piece which sees her describing the dying days of summer spent on the beach with the one she loves. Her talent for lyrics is showcased here, helped along by her studies in English Literature and Poetry.
This album is a beautiful manifestation of what Natasha calls her “lifelong love affair” with classical music - and is not a release to be missed.
