CHICAGO, IL – April 4, 2016. IFP Chicago and Full Spectrum Features present: “New Thinking for Navigating Today’s Distribution Landscape” with filmmaker Patrick Wang. This workshop will be held on Saturday, April 9 from 11AM - 1PM at Stage Two - Columbia College 618 S Michigan, 2nd Floor. Ticket are available online ($15) general admission, ($10) students, and ($7) IFP members. Schools and organizations may inquire at regarding special rates for groups of 10 or more. This special workshop explores a wide range of new and current strategies for filmmakers who are seeking to take a more active role in the distribution of their work. New possibilities in distribution do not just come from new technology, but also from new thinking. Drawing upon his background in economics as well as filmmaking, Wang has chosen unusual paths to successfully find an audience for his films, sometimes working alone as well as working with a range of partners in different countries. Wang will discuss his diverse experiences as well as ideas for distribution yet to be tried.
Patrick Wang’s most recent work The Grief of Others premiered at SXSW and garnered critical acclaim around the globe. His film In the Family was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for “Best First Feature.” IFP Chicago and Full Spectrum Features are proud to present the Chicago premiere of Wang’s The Grief of Otherson April Friday, April 8, 2016, 6:00PM at DePaul University's CDM Theater (247 S State St, Lower Level) as part of DePaul University's Visiting Artist Series. Based on the novel by Leah Hager Cohen, The Grief of Others follows a family reeling from the loss of their newborn and the unexpected visitor who spurs them out of isolation, bringing them even closer together.
