For Jonatha Brookes, recognition in the music industry is something to which she is no stranger. In advance of her highly anticipated EP, Imposter, Brookes whetted appetites with an authentic and heartfelt set list in Islington, London.
Beginning with one of her many signature tunes, ‘Back in the Circus’, Brooke immediately commands the attention of the entire room. Her confident vocals shine out in the midst of the instrumentation and with the inclusion of tracks from her upcoming EP, it’s clear that this talent shows no sign of slowing down, even two-decades into an impressive and expansive music career.
The upcoming EP boasts a five-track collection of songs which can only be described as an arms-open, embrace-all offering which encourages us to step outside our comfort zone and live as authentically as possible. Title track, ‘Imposter’ analyses her tendency to be her own worst critic and is a refreshingly honest and frank take on the singer-songwriter world, one which is remarkably well-received during her set.
The EP also includes the fiercely empowering ‘Fire’, the frank depiction of forgiveness and
loss ‘Firefly’, and the boldly progressive ‘Revenge’ (in this story, revenge is inclusivity,
kindness and diversity).
At its core it’s an EP about love, acceptance, and resolution, and it
shows the true flexibility and versatility of this talented artist and musician. And with this latest performance under her belt, it’s clear that this EP was made to be enjoyed live.
