Being a female producer is not easy. The industry is overwhelmingly male-dominated and working twice as hard for half the recognition is sadly all-too common. Astraea, having worked with some of the biggest names in the industry (including Jack Savoretti and Lewis Capaldi), has had a tough fight to get to the top.
Now one of the go-to producers in the industry, Astraea has decided to chronicle her experiences in reaching those dizzying heights, and the obstacles she has faced along the way. The result is ‘Tonight I Run’, a measured outpouring of absolute triumph and self-love.
Hoping to inspire those who are to follow in her wake, Astraea melds together piano, synths and strings in the effortless way of someone who is a master in their field. The lyrics tell the story of someone who didn’t give up in the face of adversity, who overcame untold obstacles to get to where they are today.
“It’s an anthem for the underdog,” explains Astraea, whose voice is already well known in the world of sync for soundtracking adverts and some of the biggest moments on television as well as her cover of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.
The video (see below) is a remarkable feat of cinematography - recorded and edited completely from Astraea’s home in lockdown. The video, which understandably needed to take a more minimalist approach, sees Astraea performing at her piano, in front of the pink and purple lighting which is fast becoming her trademark. She performs as though her life depends on it, effortlessly communicating the passion and determination which a song of this nature demands.
‘Tonight I Run’ is both inspiring for others who may be starting their journey towards the top, and a triumph for Astraea, who is already there. I, for one, am very excited to see what she does next. Watch the video below:
